About

Mission:

The mission of the Liberty & Law Center’s Free Speech Clinic is to protect and advance freedoms of speech, press, assembly, and petition by training aspiring legal professionals to become life-long advocates of these foundational principles of American democracy.

History:

Freedom of expression is foundational to individual liberty and democratic governance. Yet across the country, we have seen increasing demands from people and groups from all parts of the political spectrum to silence those with whom they disagree. This trend has been particularly notable at America’s colleges and universities, where there are growing demands from students, faculty, and within university administrations to suppress free speech and open inquiry. Launched in Fall 2018, the Clinic was created both to be a resource for those whose First Amendment rights have been threatened by government encroachment, and to provide Scalia law students with the opportunity to gain practical legal experience in free speech litigation.
